Our youth programme provides an opportunity for young people to engage in informal learning that will enable them to build confidence, make friends, raise self-esteem and encourage them to engage more fully with services suited to their needs.
The Trax Group aims to deliver a fun, energetic and tailored programme in 6 week blocks that will allow groups of local young people the chance to try new activities, build skills, engage in community work and access follow on volunteering opportunities. Programme participants will be able to increase their physical activity by attending cycling classes and build their practical skills by learning about bike maintenance. Alongside the practical elements of the course participants will also attend confidence building and self-esteem raising workshops to offer a holistic service which will impact on health and well -being.
The Trax Group would acts as an early staged intervention which provides young people with advice and direction to move towards an agreed goal and participants also have the option to progress onto the 1848 Volunteering Programme (an employability based programme that would support them to move onto a positive destination).
In the future it is hoped that the group to be youth led, where the young people themselves will develop skills that will allow them to be involved in the design of the project and with support, plan parts of the programme tailored to their own and other young people in the group’s needs and wishes.
The Trax Group is aimed at young people residing in the Southside of Glasgow and will be delivered on site at our Cycling Centre based in Pollokshaws West Train Station and in the local community (depending on the activity).
