May diary
2nd June 2018   •   Posted in News

What a busy month indeed. We moved office and settled in with new team members Jennifer & Sharon. Anne, Abdul and Scott continue to support us by volunteering their time in exchange for work skills but alas all of them may move into paid work placements.
Paul was successful in obtaining the position of mechanic at our new facility in Govan where he will re train volunteers into cycling related employment. Glasgow The Caring City has hired the best person for the job, we will miss seeing Paul very much. Our new hub will house some of our bikes for sale, cycling classes and our new smoothie bike as well as being a place of learning.
We had double the sign up for our May City Cycling skills, so we doubled our cycling coaches and everyone has a place on this great Tuesday course, we will continue to run these sessions through June whilst we confirm our summer schedule.
Our school groups have been busy in this amazing weather and we move over 70 children out of beginner/novice cycling levels into proficient cycling categories and we wish them all a great cycling summer, it’s emotional knowing that this summer is one that they will all remember as either new or improved.
The SWCC Summer Camp has been posted online and on our website, so be quick! This year we have 6 places Tues – Thurs which really packs a lot in. Thank you to Busby Angling Association for donating our fishing permit.
SWCC had a team of 2 for the Glasgow & Clyde Cycling Challenge and finished in 18th place, 17th place was only 3 miles away after the app updated – this will not happen next year!
We continue to welcome school age volunteers and mentors if anyone wishes to continue with us past the end of term.
Wishing you all happy cycling
